Appropriate Referrals are Patients Who:
- Present with acute illness requiring in-house diagnostics or urgent stabilization
- Need sedation, pain control, or wound management that exceeds general practice capabilities
- Require 24/7 monitoring or hospitalization with IV fluids, medications, or ongoing nursing care
- Have critical conditions that don’t require a specialist
- Need after-hours care or weekend management
Common Medical Cases that Urgent Pet Care Manages Include:
- Persistent vomiting, diarrhea, or GI upset
- Suspected pancreatitis or endocrine emergencies (Addisonian crisis, diabetic ketoacidosis, etc.)
- Hematuria, urinary obstruction, or stranguria
- Acute respiratory distress or frequent coughing
- Lethargy, collapse, hypothermia, or pale mucous membranes
- New-onset seizures or neurological abnormalities
- Suspected toxin ingestion (chocolate, xylitol, grapes, rodenticides, etc.)

- Lacerations, abscesses, bite wounds
- Foreign body ingestion (stabilization, diagnostics, or post-op care)
