Our Doctors
Dr. Emily Buhr
DVM
Dr. Emily Buhr is a part owner of Urgent Pet Care. She is a 2003 Kansas State University graduate and has 22 years of experience practicing veterinary medicine (20 of those years in emergency medicine). She has a special interest in exotic pet emergency medicine, in addition to emergency and critical care. One of the best parts of her job is helping owners navigate complicated decisions to care for their pets. Dr. Buhr is a humble person of faith, a wife, and a mother of 3. Her family’s pets include Natalia and Alleluia (standard Schnauzers), Oliver (a mini lop rabbit), and several fish and shrimp. When she’s not at Urgent Pet Care, she loves homeschooling her children, leading bible study, taking her dogs on nature walks, reading, Netflix, and gardening. Her family loves to take vacations to the mountains and camp locally in the Fall.
Dr. Melissa Edloff
DVM
Dr. Edloff has been part of our UPC family for a decade–9 years as a doctor’s assistant and 1 year as a veterinarian. She graduated from St. George’s University in 2024 and has been practicing medicine for a year. Her favorite areas of vet med include surgery and emergency medicine. She was awarded the Zoetis Award for Excellence: Surgery Team (St. George’s University), the SVECCS Outstanding 6th Termer Award, and was President of SVECCS (Student Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society) for 2 years while in school. Her pets include Archer (a Grenadian Pothound), the dog she adopted on the island of Grenada while she was there for vet school. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with and training her pup, painting, exploring, traveling, and going to escape rooms.
Dr. Caetlen Gyhra
DVM
Dr. Gyhra is a 2024 graduate of the ISU/UNL PPVM Program. While she has been practicing as a DVM for a year, she has 10 total years of experience in veterinary medicine. Dr. Gyhra grew up on a farm and worked in a mixed animal general practice, then started working at UPC in vet school, where she fell in love with emergency medicine. One of the most rewarding parts of the job for her is being available at odd hours to help pets who need it the most. At home, she has a bunny named Bunny, a hermit crab named Crabbie, a special needs leopard gecko named Leo, and a kitten she bottle fed named Marty. When she is not at UPC, she enjoys visiting home to help on the family farm, as well as camping, hiking, fishing with her partner.
Dr. Haley Holbrook
DVM
Dr. Holbrook graduated from Iowa State University in 2019 and has been practicing veterinary medicine for 6 years. Her pets at home include Darcie (Miniature Schnauzer), Rosie (a 3-legged cat), and Margo (a cat with all 4 legs). When Dr. Holbrook is not working, she loves to read, travel, go to the movies and to theater shows, and especially enjoys game nights with friends.

Dr. Amanda Meyer
DVM
Dr. Meyer is a 2015 graduate from Iowa State University and specializes in soft tissue surgery and ICU case management. While in vet school, she worked as an ER/ICU veterinary technician, and while at ISU, she earned accolades such as the Award for Clinical Excellence. She has been working as an emergency veterinarian for over 10 years, and has been in Omaha for a total of 8 years. Dr. Meyer has 3 pets: Lloyd Garmadon (a 3-legged cat), Winnie (a Golden Retriever), and Penelope (a Blue Tick Coonhound). When she is not practicing veterinary medicine, she enjoys spending time with her 4 children and husband, taking her kids to hockey and lacrosse games, and spending time outdoors int the water doing activities like waterskiing (she used to waterski competitively!).
Dr. Jennifer Sokol
DVM
Dr. Sokol graduated from Kansas State University in 2001 and has 24 years of experience practicing veterinary medicine. She has 4 kids, and many “extra” kids through sports and extracurricular activities. When Dr. Sokol is not at UPC, she enjoys working outside in her flower garden. Loui, Dr. Sokol’s very fancy Devon Rex, keeps her on her toes.
Dr. Kayla Staley
DVM
In 2019, Dr. Staley graduated from the University of Missouri. Since then, she has been practicing emergency medicine at UPC. Born and raised on a family farm outside St. Louis, Dr. Staley now lives on a cattle farm in Iowa with her husband, two children, and a corgi named Nash. Her interests outside of the clinic include church activities, gardening, and baking.
Dr. Elaine Starks
DVM
Dr. Elaine Starks is a 2022 graduate of St. Matthew’s University and has been practicing veterinary medicine since graduation. She has special interests in emergency and critical care; nutrition; wound care; and traditional Chinese veterinary medicine. Her family includes her mother, who also practices at Urgent Pet Care, her father, and her brother. Dr. Starks has 2 pets: Salvador, a 14 year old bold and talkative MN domestic shorthair cat, and Sydney, a 3 year old active and sweet MC Bengal cat.
Dr. Stephanie Vinson
DVM
Dr. Stephanie Vinson is a 2007 graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys all aspects of emergency care and has special interest in wound management and infectious disease. Dr. Vinson has practiced veterinary medicine for 18 years with some of that time spent in public health and community service roles. She enjoys spending time with family outdoors and supporting her children as they participate in sports and show their livestock. Her family is rounded out with two dogs, three cats, and a handful of horses and 4H calves.
Dr. Kelly Hodson
DVM
Dr. Hodson is an Iowa State University 2013 graduate. She has 12 years of veterinary medicine experience and has worked at Urgent Pet Care since she graduated. Her family includes a husband John, her daughter Eliana, and 2 cats at home named Ronin and Swiffer. Outside of her dedication to her work at UPC, Dr. Hodson has instructed martial arts as a hobby for 25 years.
Dr. Scott Yonker
DVM
Dr. Scott Yonker grew up on a farm in Springfield, Nebraska. He completed his undergraduate work at University of Nebraska – Lincoln and was accepted to the University of Missouri, where he graduated with a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1987. He came back to Omaha after graduation and has worked in emergency medicine since 1988. Dr. Yonker is married and lives on a farm with his wife, Debbie. Together they care for 4 horses, 6 cats, and their dog, Ruby. In his spare time, Dr. Yonker likes to work on old cars and tractors.
